Designed by New Haven architect E. Carleton Granbery, the house exemplifies the core principles of the modern movement: generous use of glass and wood, clean horizontal planes, open yet intimate indoor space, and the integration of the house and the land. The house takes it cues from the rugged beauty of its 2-acre waterfront site. With a single story and a flat roof, with rock and stone incorporated in the design, and with water views from every room, the house celebrates its surroundings: granite outcroppings and mature trees, which frame the ever-changing views of Long Island Sound and the picturesque Thimble Islands. The 2600 square foot 5 bedroom dwelling provides a shore front counterpart to the contemporary New Canaan legacy.
